Details about Kapton Polymide film Tape

Excellent electrical isolation and temperature stability ability. Temperature range up to 500 Degrees Fahrenheit. Kapton is a polyimide film developed by DuPont in the late 1960s that remains stable across a wide range of temperatures, from −269 to +400 °C. Kapton is used in, among other things, flexible printed circuits and space blankets, which are used on spacecraft, satellites, and various space instruments.

Unique properties of Kapton Polymide film Tape

  • UL 510 Flame Retardant.
  • High dielectric strength.
  • Silicon adhesive protection leaves no residue.

Kapton tape (generally known as polyamide tape) is a cool tool in these cases and better that regular black electrical tape for most applications

  • It is heat resistance. You can put a soldering iron on Kapton tape and it will not melt.
  • It does not stretch.
  • It is thin.

Applications in a range of industries including,

  • consumer electronics, solar photovoltaic and wind energy, aerospace, automotive and industrial applications.
  • Automotive Sensor and Manifolds
  • Insulating Circuit Boards
  • Etching
  • Fiber Optics Cable
  • High temperature Powder Coating
  • Semiconductor Manufacturing
  • Wave soldering during circuit board assembly

Some of Kapton tape's primary use cases are:

  • Electronics for Masking Circuit Boards in wave soldering(and in gold leaf masking)
  • Electrical for coil insulation, Splicing wires
  • capacitor and transformer wrapping/insulation
  • Magnetic wire insulation.
  • As very high temperature mask during powder coating applications.
  • Kapton and ABS adhere to each other very well, so is often used as a build surface for 3D printers.
